The DNS Monitor is a monitoring script that takes an automated feed from your IPAM System and systematically checks that DNS servers are operational in your environment.  The DNS Monitor provides you an additional level of visibility by performing a variety of availability and performance checks against all your remote IPAM DNS servers.

The DNS Monitor can interface with a wide variety of network monitoring and management platforms through SNMP, log scraping, and a number of other customizable message formats and interfaces.  The DNS Monitor can be used standalone as a command-line tool or be installed and integrated into the Netlinx IPAM Web Portal.

The DNS Monitor performs the following functions:

• DNS Zone Health Check - ensuring all authoritative name servers are indeed AUTH for their configured zones
• DNS Server Availability Check - checks network connectivity, server, and service availability
• DNS Query Response Check - checks for network or DNS Server latency

When incorporated into the Netlinx IPAM Web Portal, the DNS Monitor plug-in provides extensive real-time reporting, charting, graphing, and alerting capabilities.  As a command-line utility the DNS Monitor tool can be a powerful troubleshooting ally, helping you quickly pin point issues with your DNS environment.
