Managing Risk

rotator-risk

Risk comes in many different flavors, including functional, financial, operational, and security risk.  When it comes to implementing and supporting your IPAM and DNS environment, it is vital that all of these types of risk are accepted, mitigated, reduced, contained, or eliminated all together.
  • Functional Risk - systemic failures to the environment
  • Financial Risk - losing money through lost transactions or stalled business operations
  • Operational Risk - failure to internal business operations and work flows
  • Security Risk - internal and/or external breaches, compromising applications and ultimately the business.

The following is our approach to handling risk when performing customer engagements:

risk-management-cycle

Identify Risk

We will identify the potential risks (or opportunities) facing your IPAM projects and current deployments.  Once all risk is identified, it is logged with all details of the risk, their assessment, owners, and status.

Evaluate Risk

Netlinx will assess the probability and impact of your IPAM projects, as well as, in the individual elements of your IPAM DNS and DHCP environment.  At this point we help you identify suitable responses to any risks encountered.

Identify Responses

Once risk has been identified and evaluated, the next task in our analysis is to identify what actions to take based upon each risk.

  • Risk Prevention - Eliminate the risk entirely
  • Risk Reduction - Treat the risk to lessen impact
  • Risk Acceptance - Tolerate the risk
  • Contingency Planning - Address the risk

Select Course

The last step in our Risk Analysis is to choose from our identified responses how the risk will be dealt with in our project.

Plan and Resource

Next, we apply Risk Management principles to our project work.  We develop project plans for our customers that are mindful of what courses of action we'll be taking on projects to handle risk taking into account all the required resources.

Monitor and Report

The project plan is monitored for how our chosen actions successfully manage the risks.  The results are reported and used to re-evaluate how our project is managing overall risk.

This completes one cycle of how we analyze and manage risk, and we continue this cycle making any necessary refinements until the end of the project.
